The other day my daughter announced that she was the proud winner of a blender through a drawing at work.    I use my blender all the time for smoothies in the morning, Orange Julius when the craving hits, or milkshakes when we really want to be naughty – I know, we’re rebels, eh?  Clearly I have an affinity for frozen beverages, so when we were trying to decide on a fun send-off for our graduating girls in the Young Womens Program, the answer was easy:  Mocktails!  In honor of Lindsay’s new blender, here are a few of my favorite non-alcoholic beverages and the places you can go to get the recipes:

Sonic’s Cherry Limeade
Sonic's Cherry Limeade - a sweet and sassy summer drink, even if it's not summer! This is one of those make-you-think-it’s-summer-even-if-it’s-not kind of drinks.  Two words to make it that much better:  Sonic. Ice.  You know you can buy Sonic’s famous ice by the bag for a couple of bucks, don’t you?  Well now you do.  Which brings us to the next question, if you’re going to Sonic for ice, why wouldn’t you just buy the cherry limeade there?  I’ll leave that one for you to mull over. Maraschino cherries are a must for this libation, even if you don’t love them.  Why, you ask?  So you can show off your kissing prowess by tying a knot in the stem with your tongue.  Girl’s got skills.  Skip on over to Tasty Kitchen and get to practicing.

Non-alcoholic margaritas - a hit at your next fiesta!Mmmmmmm I love me a frozen margarita.  Years and years ago, the hubs and I were in Tijuana, Mexico with my sister and we went into a dive quaint little spot where they served two for the price of one margaritas.  It didn’t take too many sips (did I say that out loud?) to realize these guys had no clue what a virgin margarita was, and when we explained there was no alcohol in a virgin drink, he slapped his hand to his forehead and gave us a disgusted “Aye yai yai” shaking his head at the crazy gringos.  My only complaint about ordering a margarita of this type in a restaurant is that they bring it out in a boring water glass, not the cool margarita glass that inspires the Mexican Hat Dance.  Hence, I make them at home with my own fancy glass (pink, no less) and dance to my heart’s content – less awkward for the waiter that way.  I actually bought margarita salt, but found quickly that it’s pretty much kosher salt in a plastic fiesta container, so save the money and use kosher.  I’ve seen a margarita recipe that adds in grapefruit juice, but haven’t tried it yet.  Sounds scrumptiously refreshing, though, I’m thinkin’.  Thanks, Alli at An Alli Event for this easy recipe, complete with fancy glasses.

Strawberry Daiquiri  Strawberry Daiquiris, anyone? Don't forget your shades and sunscreen - takes you to the beach!

Yummy.  Little drink umbrellas required. Call the cabana boy.  ‘Nuff said.  Couldn’t find a more straightforward website when searching out non alcoholic frozen drink recipes than Non Alcoholic Frozen Drink Recipes.

I solemnly swear I am up to no good - but this Butterbeer recipe is amazing!I had to add this one in because we had a cute set of twins (not mine, though they are stinkin’ adorable) at our party who loved everything Harry Potter.  I wasn’t as excited about this drink, but wanted to make everyone happy.  Turns out I’m quite the fan of Butterbeer!  Really, though, who wouldn’t be a fan of marshmallow creme in a drink? And the girls said this recipe was even better than the drinks at Harry Potter World.  Take that, Aberforth.  Toni over at Design Dazzle has the setup for a complete Potter Party, complete with adorable Butterbeer labels.

Lava Flow

Say Aloha with a Lava Flow!

This is unequivocally my favorite frozen drink of all time.  And that coco lopez needed for the recipe?  Nectar of the gods, I’m telling you.  It’s not that easy to find in the store if you don’t know what you’re looking for.  It comes in a little blue can; I found mine by the drink mixers and club soda.  This baby transports you to the Islands – make it and just try to refrain from the hula, I dare you.  Those crazy kids at Just a Pinch have this recipe for your pleasure.
